There is a mine in the mountains of Grant County, New Mexico, where the earth gives up something extraordinary a turquoise so vivid, so saturated with the color of high desert sky after rain, that it has no equal in the Southwest. Tyrone turquoise. Two stones of it, stacked. The top stone hangs clean in a plain bezel, 1⅜” of pure teal threaded with gold and brown matrix, anchored at its shoulder by a copper ball that catches fire in any light. Below it, the second stone 1¼”, rounder, bordered by a twisted rope frame answers with the same color, the same matrix, a different voice. Another copper ball grounds the base. The whole pendant runs 3⅛” tall and 1½” wide, suspended from an 18” sterling silver box chain with a toggle clasp. This is New Mexico, distilled. This is what the ground here gives you when it decides to be generous.
This isn’t delicate jewelry. This is armor. This is heritage you wear against your skin. Weight speaks in this piece. Presence. The kind of turquoise that makes people stop mid-sentence.
