Size 7 1/2 on a 8mm Sterling Silver Hammered Band

There is a moment in early spring when the desert goes suddenly, unexpectedly green when the dry wash fills and the sage brightens and the whole landscape seems to exhale after a long winter. This stone holds that exact moment. The oval Sonoran turquoise cabochon measures 19mm x 12mm, its surface alive with vivid lime and teal green shifting across warm brown matrix like sunlight moving through shallow water over ancient rock.

Set in oxidized .925 sterling silver with a hand-twisted rope border, the bezel lets the stone’s extraordinary color lead without interruption. Below it, an 8mm hammered sterling silver band grounds the piece with quiet, hand-worked texture its faceted surface a natural contrast to the stone’s luminous green above. This is not a subtle ring. It is the color of something coming back to life.

Sonoran turquoise comes from the state of Sonora in northwestern Mexico copper-rich desert country just south of the Arizona border, geologically continuous with the turquoise-producing formations of the American Southwest. The region has been mined for copper and precious stones for centuries, and its turquoise is among the most distinctive available known for an unusually vivid green palette that sets it apart from the blues and blue-greens of American mines.

The green in Sonoran turquoise comes from a higher iron content relative to copper during formation, shifting the stone’s color toward lime, apple green, and teal rather than the sky blues of Kingman or the warm greens of Manassa. Natural, untreated Sonoran turquoise of this saturation is increasingly prized by collectors who recognize its rarity and its unmistakable character. This stone does not look like anything else in the case.
