The stone reads like a landscape seen from above pale blue-grey at the top, the color of high desert sky before the heat arrives, giving way to warm ochre and russet banding that moves across the lower half like canyon earth at midday. Owyhee jasper. One of the great stones of the American West, cut here into a freeform teardrop that is 1³⁄₁₆” tall and 1” wide, set in an oxidized twisted rope border with granulation ball accents every detail following the stone rather than imposing on it. The back plate is an open freeform frame, hand-stamped with the artist’s maker’s mark. Pendant only, no chain. This is a stone that knows what it is.
