Size 8 1/2 on a 10mm Ornament Band

There are stones that hold light and then there is labradorite. This extraordinary oval cabochon measures 40mm x 27mm, a commanding presence that shifts from smoldering amber-gold to violet and deep blue depending on the angle of the light, the time of day, the way you move your hand. It is not one stone. It is every version of a storm at once.

Set in oxidized .925 sterling silver with a hand-twisted rope bezel and signature ball terminals, the stone is held with the quiet confidence of metalwork that knows what it’s framing. Below it, a broad 10mm ornamental sterling band grounds the piece substantial, intentional, built to be worn and noticed..

  • Labradorite was first documented in 1770 on the Labrador Peninsula of Canada, where Inuit peoples had known and revered it for centuries, believing the stone held the frozen fire of the Northern Lights captured within the earth. That iridescent phenomenon the electric play of color that moves beneath the surface has a name: labradorescence. It is caused by light refracting between microscopic layers of feldspar within the stone, scattering into spectral color with every shift of angle or illumination.

No two labradorite stones flash alike. The particular fire locked inside each cabochon is entirely its own a consequence of how those internal layers formed, millions of years ago, deep within ancient volcanic rock. This stone carries exceptional flash, moving through amber, gold, violet, and a deep bruised pink that appears and vanishes like something half-remembered.

Major sources today include Madagascar, Finland, and Canada each region producing stones with their own distinct character and color range
