Pendant Teardrop 1¾” x 1⅛”  - Matching earrings are available for purchase on the earrings page.

There are stones that carry the quiet authority of old mountains the kind of presence that doesn’t announce itself but cannot be ignored. This is one of them. The teardrop Blue Mountain jasper cabochon measures 1¾” x 1⅛” its surface a deep, saturated olive green through which bold parallel bands of warm gold, amber, and rust move in clean horizontal lines, like sediment laid down over centuries, like the cross-section of a hillside seen from the road. The stone has a mirror polish that gives it an almost lacquered quality still water over old earth.

The setting is deliberately restrained. A clean polished .925 sterling silver bezel no rope, no ornament frames the teardrop form with modern precision, letting the stone’s deep color and strong banding carry the composition without interruption. The rope bail above adds a single handcrafted detail that connects the piece to the Fire & Stone tradition without competing with the stone’s quiet authority. This pendant belongs at the center of a clean neckline where it can do what it does best stop people mid-sentence.

  • Blue Mountain jasper comes from the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon ancient volcanic and sedimentary terrain where silica-rich groundwater slowly infiltrated existing rock over millions of years, depositing the chalcedony and iron oxide layers that give the stone its distinctive banding and color.

Despite its name, Blue Mountain jasper is not blue it is celebrated for its deep olive, forest green, and warm earth tone palette, often banded in gold, amber, and rust in patterns of striking regularity. The green color comes from chlorite and other iron-rich mineral inclusions present during silicification, while the warm bands reflect varying iron oxide concentrations laid down as the stone formed. It is a collector’s jasper prized for its depth of color, its strong banding, and its exceptional polish. Oregon produces some of the finest material in the world and this stone is a prime example of why.
