THIS LISTING IS ONLY FOR PENDANT!
Pendant Teardrop 1⅞” x 1⅜” - Matching earrings are available for purchase on the earrings page.
There is a stillness that settles over the desert just before the rain arrives when the sky goes pale and the air holds its breath and everything turns the color of waiting. This stone holds that exact moment. The teardrop Oregon plume agate cabochon measures 1⅞” x 1⅜” its surface a luminous field of cream and warm ivory through which soft white plumes drift and billow like clouds seen from below, like breath on cold air, like something about to happen that hasn’t happened yet.
Plume agate earns its name from the feathery, organic formations that bloom within the stone mineral inclusions that grew inward through the silica as it hardened, leaving shapes that look less like geology and more like weather. This particular stone is all atmosphere and no drama pale, quiet, and entirely beautiful in the way that things are beautiful just before they change.
Set in oxidized .925 sterling silver with a full hand-twisted rope border and rope bail, the teardrop bezel gives the stone an elegant downward movement that carries the pendant naturally to the collarbone. This is a piece for someone who understands that restraint is its own kind of confidence.
About Oregon Plume Agate
Oregon plume agate is found in the high desert volcanic terrain of central and eastern Oregon ancient lava country where silica-rich groundwater slowly infiltrated cavities in the rock, depositing layer after layer of chalcedony over millions of years. The plumes that give this agate its name form when mineral-rich solutions encounter manganese, iron, or other trace elements during crystallization, creating feathery, dendritic, or cloud-like inclusions that are suspended permanently within the translucent silica matrix.
Oregon produces some of the finest plume agate in the world stones of exceptional translucency and delicate internal structure that collectors travel specifically to find. The pale, creamy palette of this stone reflects a low iron environment during formation the absence of color as remarkable in its own way as the most vivid stones in the case.
